Activities and attractions in Florø
With its choice of scenery from coastal waters to glacial mountains the Florø area ought to be agreeable to almost any visitor.

Wild rivers, high peaks and calm lakes full of fish are only 20-30 kilometres away from the coast. Thus Florø Rorbu in its sheltered, but still urban location, offers you a full choice of activities. Whether you just like to relax, go shopping, or prefer fishing or mountain walking, all options are open and close at hand.

Two of these options are Furuholmen marina and a camping place, both open to the public, where you may swim or sunbathe. A small beach, Prata, is especially recommended for small children. During the evenings grill parties on our own quay are a popular diversion. (See picture above)

What to do? Our guests often hire bikes and just 500 metres away on the road to the centre of town lies the first attraction, Havhesten bathing resort with a wide range of activities for every member of a family. Picture above!

When bicycling further along Firdavegen towards the centre of town you may enjoy the scenery depicted in the aerial photo on top of this page.

Those who wish to see more than downtown Florø may visit our western islands which are easily accessible via the regular daily boat service. Some of these islands also have their own home pages with more information. E.g. www.svanoy.com, where there is a deer farm and a historic manor, visited by our ancient kings such as Eirik Blodøks and St. Olav. Later, around 1800, Norway's most famous lay preacher, Hans Nielsen Hauge, who was also a capitalist entrepreneur used to extract salt from the ocean there.

Idyll på Fanøy i Batalden Another homepage is that of Batalden, www.batalden.gs.sf.no, a veritable coastal gem with Fanøya as the starting point for exploring the whole archipelago.

For bigger groups there are special boats for hire. Try the link www.atloy.no,
or M/Kr Stabben

Kinn Kyrkje og KinnaklovaCulture in Florø: The most important cultural event in Florø, Kinnaspelet, takes place every year during the third weekend in June on the beautiful historic island of Kinn beside its medieval church. This is a famous, and grandiose, outdoor theatre performance about the St. Sunniva legend and the advent of the Reformation in Norway.

During the same weekend there is also a rock music festival, arranged by www.rockeklubben.no.
So far high quality performers like The Dubliners along with our best local artists have made this a worthwhile around the clock experience. To keep everyone going there is also a highly recommendable free herring buffet all along Florø's main street on the Friday during this special weekend.

Then, normally during the next weekend, there is another unique Florø event.
The Veiking convoy invites every boat afloat to take part in an excursion from Florø to one of the western islands. You are not supposed to show off your boat, but just to have a good time.
Take a look at www.veikingkonvoien.com, to see what it is all about.

Florø also has a museum of coastal and maritime culture, “Kystmuseet i Florø”, where you may see one of the oldest wooden boats in Norway and our most interesting old coastal sailing vessel, Svanhild, still afloat and serviceable.

At Ausevik, you can visit one of Norway's largest rock carving sites, and imagine yourself
to be back in the Stone age.
